Ball State's baseball team tallied 15-2 and 9-2 victories over IPFW in Buies Creek, N.C. Saturday afternoon to improve to 13-8 on the season.
In the first game, Ball State’s offense exploded for 15 runs on 19 hits, while Scott Baker limited the Mastodons to no runs on three hits in seven innings to secure the victory.
After scoring three runs in their first at-bat, the Cardinals rallied to a 6-0 lead after four before a seven-run fifth inning put Ball State ahead 13-0.
Baker improved to 2-2 on the season, and Alex Maloney made his first pitching appearance of the season and struck out three in the final two frames.
In the second game, the Cardinals rallied for four runs in the first, one in the second and three in the third to take an 8-0 lead after three innings and coasted to the victory.
Rindfleish and Stayton each homered for the Cardinals, while Godfrey was 3-for-5 with one RBI. Call managed three hits and three runs-batted-in with five at-bats, while Rindfleish was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Stayton was 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored.
Ball State is scheduled to play Dayton in its home opener Tuesday at Ball Diamond in Muncie, Ind.
