MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State baseball team lost the Mid-American West Division title in the 10th inning by a score of 6-4 to Northern Illinois Saturday afternoon at Ball Diamond.

With the loss, Ball State falls to 28-23 overall and 15-12 in league action.  The Huskies improve to 22-32 overall and 16-11 in the MAC.

Cody Campbell led the team at the plate going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a homerun.  Anthony Andres suffered the loss on the mound for Ball State after 2.2 innings of work, falling to 2-7 on the season.

The Huskies crossed the plate in their first at bat to take an early 1-0 lead over Ball State after Micah McCulloch singles to left field for the RBI.

After a scoreless second and third inning, Northern Illinois added two more runs in the fourth to take the 3-0 edge over Ball State.  The Cardinals answered in the bottom of the inning after Sean Godfrey opened the inning with a single to the NIU shortstop.  Campbell then hit his third homerun of the season which brought home Godfrey making it a 3-2 ball game.

Another back-to-back scoreless inning, gave the Cardinals the opportunity to tie the game in the seventh.  Elbert Devarie started the inning off with a double to left center field then advanced after Wes Winkle got out at first.  Ryan Spaulding grounded out to first with Godfrey on deck.  Godfrey brought home Devarie to knot the game 3-3 after he doubled down the right field line.  Campbell ended the inning with a fly out.

Defensively both teams held each other off from scoring in the eighth and ninth which sent the game into extra innings.  The Huskies scored three runs off of three hits in the 10th inning to take a 6-3 advantage over the Cardinals.

Spaulding started things quickly in the bottom of the 10th for the Cardinals with a double to right centerfield.  Godfrey was thrown out at first by the NIU shortstop but advanced Spaulding to third base on the play.  Campbell then singled up the middle to bring home Spaulding.  With two runs left to tie the game and only one out the next two batters on deck for Ball State was Wellman and Blake Beemer.  Both would fly out to end the ball game.

The Ball State baseball team will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming 2013 Mid-American Conference Tournament this week in Avon, Ohio.  The Cardinals will play No. 5 Miami Wednesday at 9 a.m.
