Baseball Suffers 4-3 Loss at Indiana State
Ball State's baseball team suffered a 4-3 loss at Indiana State in a midweek non-conference game.
The Cardinals fell behind 1-0 in the first, but scored two runs in the top of the second to take an early lead in the contest.
Cody Campbell opened the second inning with a single and a Billy Wellman double put runners at second and third. Blake Beemer grounded out, but the play scored Campbell to tie the game at 1-1. Dominick Catanzarite singled and scored Wellman to give Ball State the early lead.
Indiana State tied the game with one run in the fifth before Ball State went ahead 3-2 with one score in the seventh.
Jarrett James pinch ran for Kevin Schlotter, who had walked. James stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored Ball State's third run of the game when he crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
Indiana State would score two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the 4-3 lead.
Ball State, which is in second place in the Mid-American Conference West Division, will host the MAC West first place Northern Illinois Huskies in a three game series Thursday through Saturday. Thursday's first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
