Scott Baker, a sophomore right-handed pitcher for the Ball State baseball team, has been named the Mid-American Conference's West Division Pitcher of the Week for his performance in Ball State's 5-1 win at Middle Tennessee State Sunday.
Baker pitched the final game of Ball State's three game series at Middle Tennessee State and earned the win. Baker pitched seven innings, allowing only one earned run, while striking out eight and walking two.
He is 1-0 on the season with a 1.29 earned run average. Baker allowed only six hits and the Blue Raiders managed only a .231 batting average against him in the contest.
Ball State, under the direction of head coach Rich Maloney, will continue the 2013 season in a four game tournament at Lipscomb. The Cardinals will face Bradley Friday, Lipscomb Saturday and each of the teams Sunday.
