MUNCIE, Ind. -- Mike Roberson, a senior catcher at Bartlett High School in Bartlett, Ill., will join the Ball State baseball program for the 2013-14 academic year.
Roberson hit .341 with nine doubles as a junior last season, leading Bartlett's regional championship team in on-base percentage. He threw out 22 of 29 potential base stealers and was selected to play in the Stevenson Showcase for top players in the area.
"Mike is a really gritty player," Ball State head coach Rich Maloney said. "He is a man on a mission. He is a very competitive person who will add great value to our team. We are excited to have him join the Ball State family."
Roberson has played summer baseball for the DuPage Training Academy in Illinois. He hit .363 with 12 doubles and 27 RBI last summer for his under-17 team. He was also 17-for-23 throwing out base stealers and picked nine runners off first base.
Entering his senior season this spring, Roberson is a two-year letterwinner at Bartlett for head coach Chris Pemberton. The son of Mike and Cathy Roberson, he has been on the honor roll for each of his first three years of high school.
