MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State sophomore right fielder Sean Godfrey (New Albany, Ind./New Albany) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week after leading the Cardinals to their first series sweep of the season, taking three games at Northern Illinois.
Godfrey posted a torrid .667 batting average (10-of-15) on the weekend as the Cardinals out-scored the Huskies 28-18. He drove in a team-high seven runs and scored three runs as he posted three multiple-hit games on the weekend.
Godfrey opened the weekend in impressive fashion as he tallied a career-high five hits in the Cardinals' 11-10 extra inning victory. He tied his career-high with four RBI in the series opener, including driving in the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning. His five hits are the most for a Cardinal this season as he posted singles in the first, second, fourth, ninth and 10th innings.
Godfrey followed that effort up with two hits and an RBI Friday in the Cardinals' 11-2 victory. He led Ball State to the sweep in the season finale with three hits, including a pair of doubles, as the Cardinals tallied a 6-2 victory Saturday.
Godfrey finished the season leading the Cardinals with a .328 batting average, despite missing three weekends due to an injury. He led the team in MAC play with a .431 batting average and a .600 slugging percentage in 15 starts. His .431 batting average would have ranked second in the league if he had enough at-bats to qualify, falling just three at-bats short.
