Baseball's Tim Issler Named Academic All-MAC

MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State junior third baseman Tim Issler (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) has been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team, the league office announced Wednesday. The 23-man team was voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives from among a list of student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics.

Issler owns a 3.846 G.P.A. in business/finance and his selection marks the second straight season the Cardinals have been represented in the Academic All-MAC team (Ian Nielsen, 2010). He played in 37 games, including 25 starts after capturing the starting job at third base once MAC play began.

Issler led the Cardinals with a .330 batting average, posting 35 hits in 106 at-bats, including 32 singles. He finished second on the team with a .418 on-base percentage with 15 walks. Additionally, he led the team with a .377 batting average in league play, notching 26 hits in MAC 20 games.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
