MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State senior shortstop T.J. Baumet (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. This is the second MAC weekly honor of Baumet's career (4/26/10) and his first honor this season.
Baumet led the Cardinals with a .647 batting average (11-of-17) in four road games. He recorded five doubles and a home run on the week while posting a 1.118 slugging percentage. He reached base 14 times for a .700 on-base percentage, while also stealing three bases.
Baumet notched three multiple-hit games on the week, including a pair of four-hit contests as he drove in five runs and scores six. He opened the week with a season-high four hits against Big Ten foe Purdue before equaling the mark with four hits Saturday against Northern Illinois in game two of the doubleheader. He posted two doubles and a home run in the Cardinals' 13-7 victory over the Huskies.
Miami's Jon Edgington was named the MAC East Division Player of the Week while Kent State's Kyle Hallock (East) and Central Michigan's Zach Cooper (West) earned the league's weekly pitching honors.
Baumet and the Cardinals close out the 2011 regular season this weekend as they host the Toledo Rockets in a three-game series set to begin Thursday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Ball Diamond.
