Ball State's baseball team improved to 10-8 overall with a 9-2 victory over IPFW in Indianapolis, Ind., Sunday. The win was the fourth on the weekend for the Cardinals with three wins over the Mastodons and one win over Taylor.
Scott Baker recorded the pitching victory for Ball State and improved to 5-0 on the year. He pitched seven innings, allowing three hits, zero earned runs and struck out eight batters in the outing. The bullpen of Matt Johnsen, Michael Sandman and Tyler Jordan limited IPFW to one run in the final two innings to secure the victory.
Offensively, the Cardinals were led by the 2-for-4 performance of Cody Campbell, who alsoadded three runs scored and two runs-batted-in. Kevin Schlotter was also 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored.
Ball State jumped out to a 3-0 lead through three innings, and the game remained that way until the seventh frame when the Mastodons scored one run. The Cardinals rallied for a six run seventh inning to take a 9-1 lead into the final inning when IPFW added one additional score.
Ball State will return to action Wednesday with a 3 p.m. home game vs. Butler at Ball Diamond.
