UPLAND, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team earned another walk-off win against I-69 rival IPFW Saturday evening at Taylor when the Cardinals tallied a 4-3 victory.

Brandon Estep hit a game-winning single that scored Jarrett James in the bottom of the ninth and gave Ball State the win.

Sean Godfrey scored two runs for the Cardinals in the contest, while T.J. Weir was credited with the win after pitching the final two thirds of the ninth.

Much like Friday’s game, IPFW was the first team to get on the scoreboard earning a run in the second inning. The Cardinals had to wait until the bottom of the third to get its first run. Godfrey was walked and Cody Campbell was able to reach on an error. Godfrey advanced on the throw and was brought home by Weir who hit a sacrifice fly to center field.

Ball State had a busy offensive inning in the seventh with two runs and four hits. Blake Beemer started out the frame with a double to left field. He would then advance on an error to third base. Ryan Spaulding singled to left field and brought Beemer in to tie the game at 2-2. Godfrey laid down a bunt that got him on base and advanced Spaulding to second. Cody Campbell was able to reach on a fielder’s choice which advanced Godfrey, but got Spaulding out at third. Weir was able to get a single that brought home Spaulding to give Ball State a 3-2 lead.

The Mastodons were able to tie the score in the top of the ninth inning and set up the final inning heroics for Ball State.

The Cardinals had two outs when Campbell stepped up to the plate. Campbell singled to center field and then advanced to second on an error. Weir was intentionally walked and James was brought in to pinch run for Campbell. Estep’s single to left field was able to bring home James for the win.

The Cardinals improved to 9-8 on the season with the victory.  Ball State and the Mastodons will meet Sunday at noon in a game to be played at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis.
