Baseball Team Earns Coach Maloney 600th Career Win

Ball State's baseball team tallied a 6-2 win at Lipscomb Saturday afternoon, earning head coach Rich Maloney his 600th career coaching victory.

With the win, the Cardinals improve to 3-3 on the season, while Lipscomb fell to 4-2 overall.

Maloney's career record improved to 600-391 in his 18 years as a collegiate head coach.  Maloney owns a 259-147-1 record as Ball State's head coach.  He is in his eighth year at Ball State, having also coached the Cardinals from 1996-2002.

The Cardinals tallied two runs in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead heading to the bottom of the fourth.  Lipscomb was able to put together two scores in the bottom of the fourth, but that ended the days scoring and Ball State recorded the victory.

Scott Baker improved to 2-0 on the mound after pitching five innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out three to earn the victory.  Jon Cisna tallied his first save of the season after pitching the final four innings and allowing only one hit, while striking out two.

Offensively, Elbert Devarie led the Cardinals with a 3-for-4 performance, including a triple and two runs-batted-in.  Sean Godfrey added a triple and went 1-for-4 with a run scored.  Cody Campbell was 2-for-4 with one RBI, while Billy Wellman was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.  Blake Beemer was 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double on the day.

Ball State will conclude its four games in Nashville, Tenn., with an 11 a.m. game vs. Bradley Sunday.
