Wes Winkle, a senior member of the Ball State baseball team, has been named to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-Mid-American Conference Second Team.
Winkle played in 46 games last season as a junior outfielder and finished third on the team with a .307 batting average. He led the Cardinals with 58 hits in 189 at-bats, primarily from the leadoff position in the lineup. Winkle led Ball State with 30 runs scored, while driving in 13 runs. He posted seven doubles and two triples and was second on the team with 12 stolen bases. Winkle, who led the team with 19 multi-hit games in 2012, ended the season with a 10-game hitting streak intact.
Winkle, a four-year letterwinner at Yorktown High School, is a criminal justice major at Ball State. Winkle was the only Ball State player named to either the first or second all-league team by College Sports Madness.
Ball State opens its 2013 baseball season Feb. 15-17 at Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
