MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Ball State baseball team was limited to just five hits Sunday afternoon as the Cardinals dropped a 7-0 contest to Mid-American Conference foe Central Michigan at Theunissen Stadium.

Central Michigan (28-25, 15-9 MAC) ran its winning streak to 10 straight victories with the shutout of the Cardinals. The Chippewas opened the scoring quickly against senior right-hander Cal Bowling (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown), who was making his first start since April 6 against Miami due to an injury.

Central Michigan took advantage of a Ball State fielding error in the first inning to set the table for Sam Russell's two-run single for the early 2-0 lead. Bowling settled in and ended the threat as he induced a ground ball double play to limit the damage to just two runs.

The Chippewas added two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth inning to extend its lead to 6-0. Bowling (3-3) picked up the loss despite working 5.2 innings and allowed six runs, only three of which were earned, on eight hits while striking out six batters. It was his second appearance of the weekend as he tossed an inning of scoreless relief Friday afternoon.

Central Michigan right-hander Dietrich Enns and closer Jon Weaver limited the Cardinals to just five hits in the shutout. Enns (4-2) picked up the victory as he working 8.0 innings and allowed five hits while striking out eight before Weaver pitched a perfect ninth inning.

Ball State closes out the 2012 regular season next weekend with a three-game series in DeKalb, Ill., against the Northern Illinois Huskies. The series runs Thursday through Saturday with first pitch in game one set for 3 p.m. (CT) Thursday.
