YPSILANTI, Mich. – The men’s swimming and diving team sit in fourth place after the first day of competition at the Eastern Michigan Invitational after scoring 161 points. Eight Cardinals turned in top-10 finishes on the day.
Junior Joseph Morris (South Bend, Ind./Clay) was the top finisher for Ball State in the first day of the invitational, turning in a fourth place effort in the 200 breast with a time of 2:03.23. Freshman Jon McCormick (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield) clocked in at 2:13.91 for 14th, while sophomore Connor Snare (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll) came in 15th at 2:16.41. Senior David Wood (Swayzee, Ind./ Oak Hill) finished in 2:19.21 for 16th.
Junior Drew Tharp (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial) came in eighth place in the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.80. Junior Ethan Hall (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesterton) turned in an effort of 2:05.71 for 15th place.
In the 100 free, junior Michael Oaks (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) finished eighth with a time of 46.54. Freshman Cole Smith finished with a time of 47.99 for 13th place, while junior Shane Brown (Santee, Calif./West Hills) came in 14th, touching at 49.39. Freshman Austin Goodman (Camden, Ind./Delphi) turned in a time of 49.46 for 15th place.
Senior Michael Weber (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) clocked in a 1:53.75 in the 200 back for ninth place. Sophomore Andrew Sullenbarger (Centerville, Ohio/Carroll) and junior Tucker Hale (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) tied for 12th place with a time of 1:57.78.
Senior Nicholas Stevens (Greencastle, Ind./Greencastle) came in ninth place in the 1650 free with a time of 16:48.88. Sophomore Andy Lamb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) was not too far back in 10th place with a time of 16:51.51.
The 400 free relay team of Morris, Hale, Oaks, Weber turned in an effort of 3.07.56 for sixth place.
