MUNCIE, Ind. - The men's swimming and diving team hosted its annual Red & White meet Saturday, Oct. 27 at Lewellen Pool. The event came down to the last race, the 400 free relay, with the red team coming out on top.
The event started off with the red team comprised of sophomore Connor Snare (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll), junior Joseph Morris (South Bend, Ind./Clay), junior Drew Tharp (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial) and senior Shane Brown (Santee, Calif./West Hills) earning the victory in the 200 medley relay.
Junior Michael Oaks (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) earned the first points for the white team by winning the 200 yard freestyle. Senior Michael Weber (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic), Brown and Tharp notched back-to-back-to-back victories for the red team in the 200 IM, 50 free and 100 fly respectively.
Freshman Cole Smith (Columbia City, Ind./Columbia City) tallied points for the white squad in the 100 free. Sophomore Andy Lamb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) cruised to victory in the 500 free. The white team's 200 free relay of Oaks, Smith, Ethan Hall (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesteron) and Nick Stevens (Greencastle, Ind./Greencastle) came out on top. Weber touched first in the 100 back and Morris finished in under a minute in the 100 breast.
Junior Jake Brehmer (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesteron) came out on top in the 1M and 3M diving competition.
The red team was only ahead by three points heading into the final competition - the 400 free relay. Both teams were neck in neck heading into the final leg, but Weber, Morris, Austin Goodman (Camden, Ind./Delphi) and Lamb were able to touch first.
The men's swimming and diving team will open up the 2012-13 season at Eastern Illinois on Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. Check ballstatesports.com for more news and updates on men's swimming and diving.
