YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Ball State men's swimming & diving team posted a fifth-place finish in the 2011 Eastern Michigan Invitational after tallying 393 points during the two-day event at Jones Natatorium, featuring seven teams.
The host Eastern Michigan finished first with 923.5 points, followed by Oakland (917.5), Wayne State (665), Ashland (600), IUPUI in sixth (152) and Findlay (108).
Freshman swimmer Andrew Lamb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) started the meet with an eight-place finish in the 1650 free, clocking in at 17:00.87 and also swam the first leg of the fifth-place 800 freestyle relay (7:06.79), joining freshman Tucker Hale Fishers, Ind./Fishers), sophomore Michael Oaks (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) and junior Nicholas Stevens (Greencastle, Ind./Greencastle).
Stevens also posted a ninth-place finish in the 500 free (4:44.22), and swam the anchor in the fifth-place 800 freestyle relay (7:06.79), joining Lamb, Hale, Oaks and Stevens.
Junior Michael Weber (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) recorded a sixth-place effort in the 200 back (1:52.64) and fourth-place finish in the 100 back (51.54).
Weber also joined seniors Chris Krupa (Indianapolis/Pike), Gavin McNeeley (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) and Casey Schroeder (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger Memorial) on the fifth-place 200 freestyle relay (1:26.22), and the sixth-place 400 freestyle relay (3:07.16), 400 medley relay (3:26.28) and 200 medley relay (1:34.05).
McNeeley took home a fourth-place finish in the 100 breast (57.68) and posted a fifth-place effort in the 200 breast (2:06.20), while Krupa recorded a second-place finish in the 200 fly (1:51.39) and fourth-place effort in the 100 fly (50.52).
Sophomore Jake Brehmer (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesterton) rounded out the Cardinals’ top finishers on the 1-meter board (238.94) and 3-meter board (263.93).
Head coach Bob Thomas and Ball State returns to Lewellen Aquatic Center Friday at 1 p.m. in a meet versus Michigan State.
