Women’s S&D Places Three on Academic All-Mac Squad

MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State women’s swimming and diving sophomores Jackie Iglesias (Aurora, Ind./West Aurora), Mallory Miles (Holland, Ind./Southridge) and Emily Wisolek (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) have been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, as announced today by the league office.

Iglesias, a physical therapy/exercise science major with a 3.96 grade-point average, earns the honor for the first time during her career with the Cardinals. She posted a top-10 time of 56.18 in the 100 back preliminaries during day two of competition at the MAC Championships and returned in the finals to place 14th (56.22). Iglesias also tallied a victory in the 100 back (57.21) versus Big 10 opponent Michigan State Saturday, Dec. 10.

Miles owns a 3.73 GPA as an elementary education major and is a first-year recipient of the honor. An All-MAC Second Team selection, she posted a win in the 200 fly (2:03.95) versus the Spartans and claimed the program-record in the event (2:01.08) during the league meet.

Also at the MAC Championships, Miles placed sixth in the 200 fly prelims (2:01.59) and clocked in with a third-place time of 54.35 in the 100 fly preliminaries for a program-record. Tallying 15th place in the 200 IM preliminaries (2:04.49), she returned in the finals and set a third program record (2:03.13) in 10th place.

Wisolek, an elementary education major with a 3.79 grade-point average, earns the honor for the first time. Individual event victories during the season include a win in the 200 free (1:55.20) during the IUPUI House of Champions, a first-place finish in the 200 free (1:55.66) versus Michigan State, wins in the 200 back (2:08.38) and 100 fly (59.02) versus Eastern Illinois, wins in the 200 free (1:52.88) and 500 free (5:06.79) versus Illinois State and a first-place finish in the 500 free (5:08.86) versus Miami.

At the league championships, Wisolek tied for 20th in the 100 free preliminaries (51.39) and claimed program records in the 200 free (1:50.13) and the 500 free preliminaries (4:54.95), in addition to a seventh-place finish in the 200 free preliminaries (1:50.60).

A total of 30 student-athletes earned Academic All-MAC honors, with Miami leading all schools with eight selections, followed by Toledo with six selections.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season are only considered.
