Swimming & Diving Lose At Home To Michigan State

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University men's and women's swimming & diving team dropped their meet to Big Ten foe Michigan State Saturday afternoon at Lewellen Aquatic Center.

The men scored a 94 while the Spartans ended the day winning by 149 points.  Last year's women's team tied with MSU but the Spartans managed a 136 to 107 victory over the Cardinals this season.

The men started off strong winning the 200 medley relay.  The foursome of sophomore Adam Dale, senior Ryan Franklin, sophomore Jacob Morris and sophomore Ben Battjes turned in a time of 1:37.01 for the victory.

True freshman Maria Gramelspacher Captured the win in the 200 free after clocking in a time of 1:55.00.  Freshman Katie Bylsma took first place in the 50 free with a time of 24.73.

For the men Battjes swam his way to a top finish in the 50 free (19.91).

Junior Megan Ploetz swam a 2:08.35 for the win in the 200 fly.

The men closed the meet with a win in the 200 free relay.  The quartet of sophomore Josh Young, sophomore Austin Laska, Battjes and Morris turned in a time of 1:26.44 for the victory.

In diving sophomore Lisa Maertin took second in the 1-meter with a score of 244.88.  Jeremy Whited was third in the 1-meter (210.75).  Senior Stephanie Paul earned a second place finish in the 3-meter with a 250.05 final and junior David Linn also placed second with a final score of 258.53.

Ball State swimming and diving returns to action Jan. 8 at the House of Champions relay held at IUPUI.
