MUNCIE, Ind. – Freshman diver Madie Zirzow qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving C Championships in West Lafayette, Ind., this weekend in the 1-meter event. Of the 56 divers competing at the event, nine are from the Mid-American Conference.
Zirzow was able to qualify for the Zone meet after tallying a score of 276.75 in the dual meet with Evansville on Jan. 30. That score ranks fourth in the Ball State record books in the 1-meter diving competition (six dives).
DiveMeets.com will be running live results throughout the meet. There will be nine berths to the NCAA Championships available to both genders from Zone C this year. Auto-qualifiers include the top four finishers from the 3-meter, the top three from the 1-meter and the top two from the platform.
There are five Zone meets around the country at Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Houston, Air Force, and Purdue.
Zirzow is the first of two Cardinals to participate in post-season action. Junior breaststroker Bridgette Ruehl will compete at the NCAA Championships Mar. 21-23 in Indianapolis after earning NCAA B cut times in the 100 and 200 breast. Ruehl was a First-Team All-MAC honoree after earning two individual gold medals and a relay gold.
