Women's S&D Defeats Conference Foe Akron, 162-137

AKRON, Ohio - The women's swimming and diving team earned its first dual meet victory of the season against conference foe Akron, 162-137. The Cardinals came in first in 10 events.

"This was a special meet for me," said head coach Kristy Castillo. "I'm very pleased with the way our team competed. Their consistent effort in practice has transferred over well to their meet performances. Akron raced well, I will always have much respect for their program and coaching staff."

Junior Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City) set a personal record and came in first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:04.65, eclipsing her previous best time by three seconds. Richter also set a season best in the 100 fly, touching first at 55.13.

Junior Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) earned victories in the 100 and 200 breast with times of 1:04.21 and 2:21.81 respectively. Sophomore Carlena Magley (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb) touched first in the 50 free in 24.05. Senior Jillian Bischoff (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights) came in first in the 100 free (52.63) and junior Emily Wisolek (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) claimed the win in the 200 free (1:53.10). Sophomore Kayla Hussey (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) was the final Cardinal to earn an individual victory, coming in first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:35.27.

In the relays, Ball State came in first in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. Freshman Larah Beaver (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown), Ruehl, Richter and Magley finished in 1:45.28 in the 200 medley relay, while Richter, Bischoff, Wisolek and Magley cruised to a win in 3:30.68.

Freshman Madie Zirzow (Crown Point, Ind./Homestead) came in third in the 1M diving competition with a score of 211.28 and third in the 3M contest with a mark of 190.28. Senior Natalie Grissom (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) claimed third in the 1M with a score of 208.13.

Sophomore Leighann Mattson (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) set a season best in the 500 free with a time of 5:21.12 and finished fourth in the 1000 free (10:48.86). Junior Cheyanne Jackson (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights) finished third in the 1000 free (10:54.92) and fourth in the 500 free (5:13.08). In the 100 free, Magley and Wisolek earned second and third with times of 52.74 and 53.49 respectively. Bischoff finished third in the 200 free (1:54.81).

Senior Katelyn Pratt-Collins (Greenville, Ohio/Greenville) came in second in the 100 back (58.04), while Beaver finished third (58.22) and junior Jackie Iglesias (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) touched fifth (1:00.24). The trio finished third, fourth and fifth in the 200 back (Pratt-Collins - 2:09.72, Iglesias - 2:10.90, Beaver - 2:10.92).

Junior Stacey Wierman (Munster, Ind./Munster) touched second in the 200 breast (2:23.84) and third in the 100 breast (1:05.67).  Senior Mackenzie Imbro (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) finished third in the 200 fly (2:10.19) and second in the 400 IM (4:37.92). Wisolek touched third in the 100 fly with a time of 57.59.
