Women's S&D Earn Second at Indiana Intercollegiate

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The women's swimming and diving team opened the season at the Indiana Intercollegiate hosted by Purdue University. The team finished second behind host Purdue with 433 points. Three Cardinals won races and several finished in the top 10 of their respective races.

"I'm very pleased with how the team performed today," said head coach Kristy Castillo. "To see them race and dive the way they did lets us know we're moving in the right direction. We still have plenty to work on this week as we prepare for our next contest on the road."

Junior Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City) won the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.82. She also finished third in the 200 IM clocking a time of 2:10.15. Classmate Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) had the top time in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.61. Ruehl came in seventh in the 200 IM touching at 2:12.71. Sophomore Carlena Magley (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb) won the 100 free with a time of 52.17.

Senior Jillian Bischoff (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights) finished second in the 100 free (53.10) and third in the 200 free (1:54.60). In the 500 free, sophomore Kayla Hussey (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) touched second at 5:12.19 with junior Cheyenne Jackson (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights) coming in fifth at 5:18.68 and sophomore Leighann Mattson earning fifth with a time of 5:22.29.

In the backstroke, freshman Larah Beaver (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown) finished fourth in the 100 back with a time of 59.39. Senior Katelyn Pratt-Collins (Greenville, Ohio/Greenville) came in fifth in the same race with a time of 59.84.

Junior Stacey Wierman (Munster, Ind./Munster) came in second in the 100 breast at 1:06.54 while classmate Sumaiyah Ahmad (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) came in fifth at 1:07.23 and senior Cori Vormohr (Portland, Ind./Jay County) touched right behind in seventh at 1:07.35.

In the relays, Pratt, Ruehl, Richter and Magley finished second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.96. The 200 free relay of Magley, Elaine Pitsas (Munster, Ind./Munster), Bischoff and Mallory Przybylinski (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) finished second at 1:38.23.

In diving, sophomore Jamie Denlinger (Elkhart, Ind./Northridge) finished third in the 3M with a mark of 242.35. She finished seventh in the 1M distance with a score of 220.25. Freshman Madie Zirzow (Crown Point, Ind./Homestead) finished fifth in the IM with a score of 248.00.
