MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team will open up the 2012-13 slate Saturday as the team heads to Purdue University for the Indiana Intercollegiates at noon.
The Cardinals will rely on its leadership this season with eight seniors on the team and eight juniors including several student-athletes who have etched their names in the Ball State record books.
Leading the way for the Cardinals this season are Emily Wisolek (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge), Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) and Mallory Miles (Holland, Ind./Southridge). Wisolek, a 2012 Academic All-MAC selection, holds the school record in the 200 free set at the 2012 MAC Championship (1:50.13). Ruehl set records in the 100 breast (1:01.77) and 200 breast (2:14.28) last season individually. Miles holds the standard in the 100 fly (54.35), 200 fly (2:01.08) and 200 IM (2:03.13).
BSU returns the majority of its relay core, four events set school records last season - the 400 and 800 free relays and the 200 and 400 medley relays. Wisolek, Ruehl, Carlena Magley (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb), Jillian Bischoff (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights) and Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City) were all members of record-setting relays last season.
On the diving side, Ball State returns Jamie Denlinger (Elkhart, Ind./Northridge) who came in first in the 1M vs. Wisconsin Milwaukee (Oct. 28, 2011) with her best mark of the season, 235.80. Senior Natalie Grissom (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) will be back this season and the third diver for the Cardinals will be Madie Zirzow (Crown Point, Ind./Homestead).
