HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. -- On another challenging day for scoring at Diamante Country Club, the Ball State women’s golf team finished its final round right where it started.

The Cardinals posted a score of 323 (+35) on Tuesday to close out the UALR Women’s Golf Classic in 11th place with a three-round total of 958 (+94).

Ball State’s Jenna Hague held on to her seventh-place position on the individual leaderboard to extend her streak of top-10 finishes to 10 in a row. The junior from Burlington, Ontario, closed with a 78 to end the tournament at 14-over par 230.

Middle Tennessee distanced itself from the 17-team field with the best round of day at 304. The Blue Raiders shared the 36-hole lead with Wichita State but wound up winning by nine shots with a three-round total of 921 (+57). Oral Roberts (+66) took second and Wichita State (+67) was third.

Vanessa Johnson of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi held off a charge from Sarah Brown of Central Arkansas to claim individual medalist honors. Johnson had a five-stroke lead entering the day and finished off a two-shot victory at 3 over for the tournament.

Scores were high across the board for the second straight day as the cold, wet course continued to play long. Stronger winds made for even more difficult conditions Tuesday on the par-72, 6,076-yard layout.

Along with Hague’s 78, Ball State counted an 81 from Meghan Perry and a pair of 82s from Mary Welch and Sarah Westaway in the final round.

Welch and Westaway matched each other’s scores for the second straight day to end in a tie for 42nd place with totals of 241 (+25). Perry finished the tournament at 247 (+31), while Karley Dobis rounded out the Cardinals’ lineup at 255 (+39).

Ball State now has two team events remaining before it hosts the Mid-American Conference Championships in late April. The first of those events is UNC-Wilmington’s Seahawk Classic, slated for April 5-6 at River Landing Country Club in Wallace, N.C.
