Hague Selected for NCAA Womenís Golf Championships
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State women's golfer Jenna Hague learned Monday night her season will continue in the NCAA Championships.
The junior from Burlington, Ontario, was selected to compete in the Central Regional, which will be played May 8-10 in Stillwater, Okla.
The selection show aired Monday during the nightly Golf Central show on Golf Channel. A total of 72 teams will compete in the NCAA Championships, along with 18 of the top players in the country whose teams did not make the field.
Hague is just the second Ball State women's golfer ever selected for a regional, joining Brittany Kelly (2011). She won two tournaments this year and placed among the top 10 in nine of her 10 starts, including a fifth-place result at the Mid-American Conference Championships over the weekend. Her 74.03 scoring average this season is ahead of school-record pace by more than a full stroke.
“Today is an exciting day for Ball State women’s golf and for Jenna,” Ball State head coach Katherine Mowat said. “We knew after her great start last fall she would have a chance to make a regional. Her body of work for the year is incredible. She has proven she can compete with the best golfers in the country, and the NCAA Regional stage will be an exciting opportunity for her.”
Hague will play at Karsten Creek Golf Club, one of three regional sites across the country. The other sites are SouthWood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla., and Tumble Creek at Suncadia Resort in Ce Elum, Wash. Each regional features 24 teams plus six individuals.
The top five seeds at the Stillwater site are UCLA, Arkansas, Alabama, Arizona and LSU. Oklahoma State, playing on its home course, is the No. 6 seed. MAC champion Kent State is also in the field as the No. 13 seed (complete field listed below).
The top eight teams from each regional plus the top two individuals not associated with one of those teams will advance to the NCAA Nationals. The Nationals will be played May 20-23 at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
A two-time All-MAC First Team selection, Hague already shares the MAC record for career tournament wins with six. She has been as high as No. 71 in the Golfstat national collegiate rankings this year and reached a mark of 16th in the Golfweek women’s amateur rankings last summer. She owns an overall head-to-head record of 710-45-20 for the season.
Hague set the Ball State record for 18-hole score with a 66 in October at Indiana’s Hoosier Fall Invitational. She also carded a school-record 54-hole total of 214 at Texas State’s Jim West Challenge in February.
