The Ball State women’s golf team travels to New Braunfels, Texas, to open its spring season at the Jim West Challenge.

The tournament gets underway with 36 holes Monday and concludes with 18 holes Tuesday at The Bandit Golf Club. The action begins both days at 8:15 a.m. CT (9:15 a.m. ET), and live scoring will be available at birdiefire.com.

Tournament host Texas State checks in at No. 57 in the Golfstat rankings, highlighting a 15-team field that features 11 ranked among the top 150.

Ball State, at No. 107 in the rankings, will send a lineup featuring junior Jenna Hague, seniors Sarah Westaway, Meghan Perry and Mary Welch and sophomore Karley Dobis.

Hague, who is tied for the Mid-American Conference record with six career victories, enters the spring with a streak of seven straight top-10 finishes. She is ranked No. 72 in the nation by Golfstat after winning two tournaments during the fall and leading the Cardinals with a 73.00 stroke average.

Westaway closed the fall season with back-to-back top-12 results, while Welch finished in the top 25 at those same two events.

Ball State will be teeing it up for the first time since one of the best performances in school history. The Cardinals set or matched the school records for 18-hole and 54-hole team scores at the Hoosier Fall Invitational in late October. Hague fired a school-record round of 66 at the same event.

In addition to Ball State and Texas State, the other top-150 teams at this week’s tournament include Gonzaga (60), Cal State Fullerton (78), Colorado State (106), Boise State (119), New Mexico State (130), Eastern Michigan (132), UALR (139), BYU (145) and Boston College (148).

The Cardinals finished sixth in last year’s Jim West Challenge, which was played at Vaaler Creek Golf Club. This is the first year the tournament will be contested on the par 71, 6,178-yard layout at The Bandit Golf Club.
