Hague Honored with MAC Scholar Athlete Award

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State women’s golfer Jenna Hague was named Wednesday as the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 9-15.

The junior from Burlington, Ontario, tied the Ball State 54-hole scoring record last week with a 1-under par total of 215 to win the season-opening Redbird Invitational. She claimed a one-shot victory with rounds of 72, 70 and 73 while also leading Ball State to a second-place team finish.

Hague extended her own school record for career individual victories with five and was also selected as the MAC Golfer of the Week for her performance at Illinois State’s Weibring Golf Club.

In the classroom, Hague owns a 3.67 GPA with a major in business-marketing. She was an Academic All-MAC selection last year and one of five Cardinals named All-America Scholars by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association.

A two-time All-MAC golfer and former individual conference champion, Hague continued her impressive play this week. She backed up her win with a tie for sixth place at Louisville’s Cardinal Cup with a 54-hole score of 218. Through two events and six total rounds this year, she owns a 72.17 stroke average with an aggregate score of 1-over par.

The Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to one male and one female student-athlete in the league based on athletic performance for the week of competition and overall academic achievement.  The winners are selected by a group of the conference’s faculty athletic representatives.

Hague is the second Cardinal to win the award this fall. Quarterback Keith Wenning of the Ball State football team was a recipient the first week of the year.
