MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State women's golf program signed Kelsey Sear of Ontario to a National Letter of Intent during the NCAA's recent early signing period.
Sear, who attends Bill Crothers Secondary School in Unionville, Ontario, is currently rated No. 22 in the Golf Association of Ontario Junior Girls rankings.
"Kelsey will be a tremendous fit for our golf program," Ball State coach Katherine Mowat said. "She is an incredible athlete and student with a strong desire to be successful.
"She has played hockey at an elite level her whole life. Once she began devoting all her energy to golf, the results were outstanding. She can compete with the best golfers in Ontario, and I am confident she will have a great impact at the collegiate level."
Last summer, Sear placed eighth at the Ontario Junior Girls Championship with four consecutive rounds of 78 or better. She maintained a 79.1 stroke average during tournament play in 2012 and finished in the top 25 at the Ontario Women's Amateur.
Sear, who plays out of York Downs Golf and Country Club, finished fifth at the provincial high school championships. She also has several junior and club titles on her resume.
An accomplished junior hockey player, Sear has competed on the ice for her high school and for the Markham-Stouffville Midget AA Stars. She helped her high school team to an Ontario provincial championship last year.
Sear, who owns a 3.8 GPA and intends to major in business, will join the Cardinals for the 2013-14 academic year after completing her high school career this coming spring.
