Hague Claims Fourth Weekly MAC Award of Season

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Jenna Hague, who broke the Ball State 54-hole scoring record at the Jim West Challenge, was selected Friday as the Mid-American Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week.

The junior from Burlington, Ontario, finished in a tie for second at the event for her eighth straight top-10 result dating back to the end of the 2012-13 season. Hague has now been named the MAC Golfer of the Week four times this season and nine times in her career.

Her three-round total of 214 this week was one stroke better than the previous school record, which she shared with 2011 graduate Brittany Kelly. She was 1-over par for the tournament, two shots off the Ball State record for best score in relation to par, a mark she also shares with Kelly.

Hague started well and continued to get better as the tournament progressed at The Bandit Club in New Braunfels, Texas. She fired a 73 in round one, a 71 in round two and a 70 in round three, lowering her MAC-best stroke average to 72.7 for the year.

The 72nd-ranked player in the Golfstat national rankings, Hague held at least a share of the lead for much of the tournament’s final round before Gonzaga’s Raychelle Santos posted two late birdies to win by two strokes. Hague helped Ball State to a sixth-place finish in a 15-team field that included 11 of the nation’s top 150.

The Jim West Challenge was the first event of the spring for Ball State. Hague and the Cardinals will be back in action March 7-9 at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz.
