Women’s Golf Inks Three Indiana Standouts to NLIs

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State women’s golf program signed three Indiana high school seniors to national letters of intent during the early signing period.

Morgan Nadaline (Anderson, Ind./Anderson H.S.), Mary Ellen Romero (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern H.S.) and Kayla Adamson (Marion, Ind./Marion H.S.) each signed to join the Cardinals in head coach Katherine Mowat’s recruiting class of 2014.

Nadaline was a three-time all-state selection, a four-time all-conference pick and a four-time Anderson Herald-Bulletin Player of the Year for Anderson High School. She finished in the top 10 each of her final three seasons at the IHSAA State Championships, including a fourth-place result this fall.

A three-time Indiana Junior Golf Player of the Year, Nadaline won the Girls State Junior Championship in 2012. That same year, she finished runner-up at the Women’s Western Junior, defeating four eventual NCAA Division I golfers to reach the match play finals. Nadaline also qualified as Indiana’s representative for the PGA Junior Championship in 2011 and 2013.

“Morgan experienced a great deal of success in her junior golf career,” Mowat said. “From being runner-up in the Women’s Western Junior, to winning the state tournament, to qualifying twice for the Junior PGA, she has proven she can compete against the best golfers in the country. In any given tournament, Morgan is a competitor to watch out for, and we anticipate this to be the case throughout her college career.”

Romero, an all-state golfer, finished runner-up by one shot at the IHSAA State Championships this fall. She was a three-time all-conference and four-time all-county selection who set a state record with a score of 5-under par (31) in a 9-hole match. A sectional medalist as a freshman, she twice carded a career-low round of 68.

Romero won Indiana’s 2013 Mountain Dew Tour Championship and placed 14th at the Pinehurst Teen World Championship. She has also been a part of team success as a member of Hamilton Southeastern’s state championship squads in 2010 and 2011.

“Mary Ellen has been part of two state championship high school golf teams,” Mowat said. “She overcame a shoulder surgery last fall and, among other great finishes, she placed second in the IHSAA state tournament last month. Her comeback is a reflection of her determination, commitment and competitive drive. Those are qualities that will carry her through her college golf career.”

Adamson led her Marion High School team to four sectional championships, finishing as the individual medalist all four times. She tied for 13th at the 2012 IHSAA State Championships.

A two-time points champion on Indiana’s Mountain Dew Tour, Adamson was the tour’s player of the year in 2012. She won the Northern Junior Masters and the Indiana Golf Association Age Group Championship in 2012. In 2013, she won the Indiana Junior Golf Masters Girls and finished runner-up at the Indiana Section Junior PGA Championship.

“Kayla is a very consistent golfer who has excelled in the Indiana Junior Golf program for several years,” Mowat said. “In high school, Kayla was her team's captain and leader for four years. She was a valuable leader because of her passion for the game and her positive attitude. She possesses all the tools in her physical and mental game to play golf at the NCAA Division I level, and her best golf is yet to come.”
