LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Ball State men's tennis team lost a close 4-3 contest to UNLV Saturday evening at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Patrick Elliott and Andrew Stutz won their match at No. 2 doubles after capturing an 8-4 win over UNLV's Dimitar Petrov and Jakob Amilon. The Cardinals would then claim the doubles point after Lucas Andersen paired up with teammate Matt Helm to beat the Rebels doubles tandem of Willie Sublette and Ozzy Abraham, 8-3.
UNLV came out strong to start out singles play winning four of the six singles matches, taking the match from Ball State. Andersen picked up a win for the Cardinals on court three after defeating Tamas Batyi 6-0, 1-6, 6-2. Austin Smith dropped his first set to Willie Sublette by a score of 4-6 but would win the next two sets, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) to capture the victory.
The Ball State men's tennis team begins a three-match home stand Sunday, March 23 when it hosts Big Ten foe Illinois in Indianapolis at 6 p.m. The Cardinals will then host Butler (March 27) and Toledo (March 30).
