EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Ball State men's tennis team fell to 2-2 on the season after suffering a  7-0 loss at Big Ten foe No. 48 Michigan State, Saturday afternoon at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.  With the win the Spartans improved to 4-3 in dual action.

The Cardinals fell behind early 1-0 after the Spartans took the doubles point by sweeping all three matches.  At No. 1 doubles, Ray Leonard and Patrick Elliott lost by two games, falling 8-6 to Michigan State's duo of John Patrick Mullane and Drew Lied.  Same situation happened to the Cardinals No. 2 position, as Austin Smith paired up with Lucas Andersen to play a tough 8-6 match against Gijs Linders and Harry Jadun.

Michigan State took all six singles matches from Ball State in straight sets.  Andersen came close to taking the first set from Mullane at the No. 3 slot but ended up losing 7-5, 6-3.  Smith also played a strong match at the No. 4 position but would end up suffering a 7-5, 7-6 loss to Linders.

The Ball State men's tennis team will be back in action at home Saturday, Feb. 8 when it hosts a doubleheader at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.  The first match will be played against Eastern Illinois at 1 p.m. and then the Cardinals will close with a night cap over Indiana Tech.
