MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team (6-4) won its double-header after beating two in-state rivals IPFW (5-2) and Indiana Tech (7-0) Wednesday evening at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
The Cardinals had a come from behind victory in their first match after Ball State dropped the doubles point to IPFW. The lone twosome that won for the Cardinals was Dalton Albertin and Ray Leonard after taking down the Mastodons Daniel Kang and Joao Freitas, 8-3 at the No. 1 spot.
After that, Ball State dominated singles action posting straight set victories at the No. 1, No. 2, No.3 and No. 4 positions. Austin Smith dropped his first set to Freitas but regrouped to win in three, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 5 slot.
The Cardinals closed out the night with a 7-0 sweep over the Warriors of Indiana Tech. Ball state won all six of its singles matches in straight sets. Alexandre Brym and Austin Sansone did not give up a game in their second sets at the No. 2 and No. 6 positions respectively. Smith did not give up a game in both of his sets winning 6-0, 6-0 against Vinicius Silva at No. 5 singles.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues non-conference action at home when it hosts its second double-header of the week Saturday at 1 p.m. versus Michigan State. The Cardinals will then host Anderson at 5:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
