Muncie, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team has announced its 2012-13 fall and spring schedule, which will begin with four fall tournaments followed by opening the spring season at Big Ten foe Northwestern, Jan. 13.
"Several Big Ten opponents and numerous nationally ranked teams will pose a tough and challenging non-conference schedule," said Ball State head men's tennis coach Bill Richards. "But these are opportunities our players want. Hopefully those matches will prepare us for the challenges of the Mid- American Conference. The University of Texas fall tournament in Austin in November will give our players something to work for all fall. Our spring trip to Las Vegas in March is always a highlight of our year. We will play three very good teams but also find some time to sight see. All in all I think it is an excellent schedule."
The Cardinals open up fall 2012 play, Sept. 14-16, at the Milwaukee Classic. Ball State hosts its fall invitational, Sept-28-30. The Cardinals will close out fall play with two ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) competitions and then the Texas Invitational, Nov. 2-4.
Ball State starts the spring 2013 schedule off with back-to-back Big Ten opponents at Northwestern (Jan. 13) and then Illinois (Jan. 19) in Carmel, Ind. The Cardinals host a total of 12 matches in the spring with the MAC Championships at Northern Illinois, April 25-27.
