MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team is set to host its third match of the season at home Sunday against Cleveland State in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center with first serve at 2 p.m.
The Cardinals are off to a 2-0 start in 2014, as Ball State has recorded two wins last weekend over Detroit Mercy (7-0) and IPFW (5-2). Lucas Andersen, Patrick Downs, Patrick Elliott and Ray Leonard are currently all undefeated in singles action in their respective positions.
Ball State's match against Cleveland State will consist of three doubles matches and finish with six singles matches. This season the Intercollegiate Tennis Association has put trial rules in place to shorten the matches in hopes to bring more attention to the sport and for collegiate tennis. The first change affects the doubles matches. Previously, all doubles matches were eight-game prosets and now they are six-game prosets with a 5-5 tiebreaker.
The Cardinals will go on the road for the first time this season Saturday, Feb. 1 when Ball State travels to Michigan State for a 12 p.m. start in East Lansing, Mich. Ball State will then return home for a double-header Feb. 8 when it hosts Eastern Illinois (1:00 pm) and Indiana Tech (6:30 pm).
