Men's Tennis Adds One to Roster; Signs Three NLI's
Ball State men's tennis head coach Bill Richards has added one player to the Cardinals roster for January and signed three newcomers to national letters of intent for the 2013-14 season.
Imanol Arconada will begin his career with the Cardinals in January. Arconada is from San Juan, Puerto Rico and was a 2012 graduate of Colegio Angel David High School. He is ranked No. 46 nationally in the 2012 class according to tennisrecruiting.net which includes Puerto Rico as part of the United States tennis association along with being a five-star recruit out of six.
"The addition of Imanol Arconada will be a big boost for this year's team," said Richards. "He is capable of making a big impact once he gets settled in as the year progresses. The No. 46 ranking in his class in the United States is extremely impressive. Those are big numbers for our program."
Richards also signed three recruits to join the 2013-14 Ball State men's tennis program next fall: Lucas Andersen (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove High School), Patrick Downs (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury High School) and Andrew Stutz (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central High School).
"The three we signed in the early signing period will give us a nice base of new players for next year," said Richards. "All three signees have the talent to contribute significantly their first year. Coincidentally, they all battled injuries their senior years which held them back this fall in high school tennis. But we expect them to be healthy and ready to go for next season."
Andersen comes to Ball State from Center Grove High School where he garnered First Team All-State honors in 2011 and 2012. He is ranked No. 116 in the class of 2013 and is a four-star recruit according to the website tennisrecruiting.net, additionally he is the No. 2 ranked senior in the state of Indiana.
Downs played tennis at Canterbury High School, where he earned All-State First Team honors back-to-back seasons in 2010 and 2011. Downs saw limited action his senior season due to an injury. He is a three- star recruit and ranks 289 nationally on tennisrecruiting.net. He is the fifth ranked senior in the state of Indiana.
Stutz competed at North Central High School and was awarded All-State First Team honors in 2011 while earning Second Team All-State honors in 2012.
