MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State sophomore Tyler Ostrom was selected Thursday as the Mid-American Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Ostrom tied for first place at the Butler Spring Invitational earlier this week for the first win of his collegiate career. The Warsaw, Ind., product posted a 1-under par round of 71 in the weather-shortened, 18-hole tournament.
He tied with Garrett Browning of Robert Morris for medalist honors in the field of 43 golfers at Prestwick Country Club in Avon, Ind. The duo was two strokes ahead of the rest of the field when the second and final round was canceled Tuesday because of snow.
The player-of-the-week award is the first of Ostrom’s career and the third for a Ball State golfer in 2013-14. Teammates Tyler Merkel and Keegan McKinney each earned the honor once earlier this season.
Ball State sent four individuals to the Butler event but did not compete as a team. The Cardinals will return to action April 4-6 at Vanderbilt’s Mason Rudolph Invitational. The tournament will be played at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
