Ball State men's golf alum Kyle Cox won his third consecutive Muncie District Golf Association title Sunday, while rising senior Zach Yinger claimed the Miami Valley Golf Association Metropolitan Championship in Ohio.
Cox finished with a 12-under par total of 275 to claim his fourth career MDGA title. In the tournament contested over two weekends, Cox fired rounds of 75 at The Players Club, 66 at Crestview Golf Club, 66 at Maplewood Golf Club and 68 at Muncie Elks Country Club.
The 2007 Ball State alum won by eight shots over Patrick Kundenreich, the brother of Ball State golfer Derek Kundenreich.
Yinger, a native of Sidney Ohio, won the MVGA title by three shots. He finished with a 7-under par total of 281 (71-69-68-73) at Piqua Country Club in Piqua, Ohio. Yinger was tied with Jeff Scohy through the middle of Sunday's final round before playing the back nine in 4 under par to secure the win.
It capped an active week for members of the Ball State men's golf program. Rising senior McCormick Clouser tied for 29th at the prestigious Porter Cup at Niagara Falls Country Club.
Incoming freshman Michael VanDeventer tied for fourth place in the Northern Amateur. Michael Makris and Quentyn Carpenter were also in the Northern Am field at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, Ind. Makris will compete this week in the Western Amateur at The Beverly Country Club outside Chicago.
