McCormick Clouser Qualifies for US Amateur

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Ball State men's golfer McCormick Clouser is headed to the US Amateur Championship next month in Atlanta.

The rising senior from Bluffton, Ind., qualified Monday at Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course. He carded a 36-hole total of 1-under par 141 (70-71) to tie for second place and claim one of three advancing spots at the site.

Clouser was one of seven Cardinals among the 62-player field in the Warren qualifier. Rising sophomore Keegan McKinney tied for sixth place at 1 over par, missing out on the final qualifying position by only two strokes.

Tyler Ostrom, Michael VanDeventer, Derek Kundenreich, Quentyn Carpenter and Michael Makris also competed. Makris advanced to the US Amateur last year after winning his qualifying event.

This year's US Amateur will be contested Aug. 11-17 on the Highlands Course at Atlanta Athletic Club.

Clouser has had a strong summer already, highlighted by third-place finishes at both the Indiana Amateur and the Indiana Open. The second-team All-Mid-American Conference selection led the Cardinals in scoring average last season.
