Menís Golf Concludes Day One at Kepler Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Keegan McKinney shot rounds of 71 and 76 on Saturday to lead the Ball State men’s golf team on day one of Ohio State's Robert Kepler Invitational.

McKinney is tied for 27th place at 5-over par 147. Tyler Merkel is the second Cardinal on the leaderboard in a tie for 37th at 8-over 150 (74-76).

Ball State is 14th as a team with a two-round total of 606 (304-302). The final round is set for an 8:30 a.m. start Sunday on the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club.

“Obviously, it was tough day on a challenging golf course with a very competitive field,” Ball State head coach Mike Fleck said. “I'm hopeful we can come back tomorrow and move up the leaderboard.”

Georgia Tech, the nation’s fifth-ranked team, is leading the 15-team tournament at 572 (+7), followed by UAB at 576. Liberty and UNLV share third place at 581, while Kent State is fifth at 583. The top five teams on the leaderboard are all ranked among the top 40 in the country.

Ohio State’s Frederik Hammer owns a one-shot lead on the individual leaderboard at 3 under par. Hammer is one of four players in red figures through two rounds.

As for the rest of the Ball State lineup, McCormick Clouser owns a score of 154 (75-79), while James Blackwell is at 156 (82-74) and Tyler Ostrom at 163 (85-78).

Ball State will enter the final round one stroke behind Cleveland State for 13th place, two behind Eastern Michigan for 12th and five behind Penn State for 11th.
