The Ball State men’s golf team heads to Columbus, Ohio, this weekend for Ohio State’s Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
The event begins Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club. The teams will play 36 holes Saturday and then close the tournament with 18 holes Sunday. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
The 15-team field includes six ranked among the top 50 in the country in the Golfstat rankings: Georgia Tech (5), UAB (18), Kent State (31), UNLV (34), Liberty (36) and Northwestern (47).
It will be Ball State’s second appearance on the Scarlet Course this season. The Cardinals played in another strong field at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational beck in September. The course plays to a par of 71 and will be set up at 7,455 yards.
Eastern Michigan and Miami University join Ball State and Kent State, giving the Mid-American Conference four teams in the tournament. The rest of the field includes Charlotte, Cleveland State, Missouri, Ohio State, Oregon State and Penn State.
Ball State’s lineup this weekend with feature McCormick Clouser, Keegan McKinney, Tyler Merkel, Tyler Ostrom and James Blackwell. The Cardinals will be grouped with Northwestern and Oregon State for Saturday's opening rounds.
Clouser led the Cardinals the last time out with a tie for 29th among a loaded field at Vanderbilt’s Mason Rudolph Championship. The Cardinals tied for 12th at the tournament as a team. Clouser leads the team for the season with a 74.96 stroke average, followed closely by McKinney at 75.00.
Following this weekend’s action, Ball State will have just one event remaining before the MAC Championships in Carmel, Ind., at the beginning of May. The Cardinals will host the annual Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational at Delaware Country Club in Muncie, April 21-22.
