Men's Golf Heads to Championship Match of Match Play

Ball State won its first two matches at the Mid-American Match Play to advance to the championship match at Lake Jovita South Course in Dade City, Fla.

The top-seeded Cardinals posted a 4.5 to 1.5 victory over the 8th-seeded Ohio Bobcats in round one and a 4.5 to 1.5 win over No. 4 Eastern Michigan to advance to the championship match.

Alex Stinson and McCormick Clouser each won both of their matches at the event.

Stinson, playing in the No. 3 spot for Ball State defeated Connor Coldwater of Ohio 5 and 4 in the first round, and then beat  Casey Olsen of Eastern Michigan 6 and 4 in round two.  Clouser, a transfer from Michigan State playing for the first time for Ball State, defeated Mike Engleman of Ohio 3 and 2 at the No. 5 spot and Brian Burt of Eastern Michigan 3 and 2 in round two. 

Tyler Merkel won his round one match at the No. 1 spot with a 4 and 2 victory, and gained a half point for the Cardinals with an All Square finish in the second round.

Joe Gasser won 3 and 2 in the first round and was All Square in his second match of the day at the No. 2 spot.

Brodie Williams, who played at No. 4, lost his first round match and was All Square in his second match.  At No. 6, Tony Lazzara was All Square in his first match of the day and dominated in the afternoon round with a 6 and 5 victory.

Ball State, under the direction of head coach Mike Fleck, will face the No. 6 seeded Bowling Green Falcons in the championship match with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
