Merkel, a sophomore on the 2011-12 squad, advanced to the NCAA Central Regional and tied for 49th at the event. A 2012 All-Mid-American Conference and Academic All-MAC selection, Merkel led the Cardinals with a 73.47 average. He managed four top-10 finishes and was named the MAC Golfer of the Week three times during the season. Merkel tied for first at the Northern Intercollegiate, tied for second at the Golf Pride Pinehurst Intercollegiate, tied for fourth at the Golfweek Conference Challenge and tied for seventh at Ball State's Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational. Merkel tied his career low with a 68 at the Northern Intercollegiate, where he also tallied a season-low 54-hole score of 212.
Williams, who will be a senior on the 2012-13 team, was the Cardinals second best finisher at the MAC Championships with a tie for 13th. He managed a season low 69 at Pinehurst, and tallied a career best 54-hole score of 221 at the Firestone Invitational. Williams tallied a career best eighth place finish at the EY Invitational. He averaged 74.94 in six events on the season.
Carpenter, the lone senior on the 2011-12 team that saw significant competitive playing time, managed a career best finish with a tie for first at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. He tallied a career low 67 at the event plus posted a career low 54-hole score of 209 at the Falcon Invitational. Carpenter managed three top-20 finishes in the fall, and tied for 33rd at the MAC Championships. He managed a 3.267 cumulative grade-point average on Ball State's 4.0 scale as a risk management and insurance major.
