Ball State's men's golf team placed 15th at the prestigious Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational, which featured six of the nation's top 30 teams.
The tournament was held at the Karsten Course in Tempe, Ariz., and the Cardinals managed a 308-292-294=894, while the nation's third-ranked California won the event with an 835. The top five placing teams were ranked in the nation's top 16.
Tony Lazzara was Ball State's top finisher and tied for 38th with a 78-70-73=221. Tyler Merkel tied for 48th with a 77-74-71=222. Joe Gasser tied for 61st after posting a 78-74-73=225, and TJ Carpenter tied for 70th with a 75-74-80=229. Alex Stinson finished 91st with an 82-80-77=239.
Ball State will return to action Saturday and Sunday at the Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio.
