Ball State's men's golf team tied for 10th out of 18 teams at the Rio Pinar Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
The Cardinals managed a 292-301-298=891, while Central Florida won the event with an 841. Liberty finished second with an 846 and North Carolina State was third with an 861.
Ball State entered the event ranked 65th in the country out of the nearly 300 teams, according to GolfStat. Three other teams enter the event ranked in the nation's top-50 -- North Carolina State (21), Central Florida (31) and Liberty (33).
Eric Steger led the Cardinals and tied for 10th overall with a 71-72-71=214.
Tyler Merkel tied for 44th with a 72-76-76=224, while TJ Carpenter managed a 76-76-75=227 and tied for 60th. Joe Gasser tied for 68th after carding a 73-77-78=228, and Tony Lazzara tied for 88th with a 76-83-76=235.
Joining Ball State at the 18-team tournament were Akron, Campbell, Central Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, George Mason, Houston Baptist, Liberty, Marquette, Miami University, North Carolina State, Northern Illinois, Rhode Island, Seton Hall, Toledo, Wichita State and Winthrop.
