Men's Golf Finishes Third at Renaissance Invitational

Ball State's men's golf team finished in third place out of 12 teams at the Renaissance Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla.  The event, which is hosted by Xavier University, was being played at The Club at Renaissance.

Ball State managed a 288-292-290=870, while Xavier (857) won the event and Florida Gulf Coast (860) finished second.

Xavier entered the tournament ranked 32nd in the country by Golf Stat, while Ball State is ranked 37th in the nation.  Herbert Day of Xavier was the highest ranked individual in the event at 117 and he placed seventh, while the Cardinals Eric Steger is ranked 153rd in the nation and tied for ninth with teammate TJ Carpenter.

Steger fired a 70-72-75=217, while Carpenter managed a 74-74-69=217.  The final round 69 was a career low for Carpenter.

Alex Stinson managed a 76-72-71=219 and placed in a tie for 18th.  Tony Lazzara tied for 26th with a 73-74-75=222, while Tyler Merkel tied for 32nd after posting a 71-74-79=224. 

Joining Ball State at the event were Bethune-Cookman, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgetown, Marshall, Miami University, Western Kentucky, Wisconsin and Xavier.
