MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State men's golfers Tyler Merkel and McCormick Clouser were selected to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team announced Wednesday by the league office.

The Cardinals tied with Kent State and Toledo for the most selections in the MAC as voted on by the league's faculty athletics representatives.

Merkel was named to the Academic All-MAC Team for the third year in a row. A three-time MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week during his career, he graduated this spring with a 3.866 GPA in business administration. The Evansville, Ind., product finished with a 73.99 career scoring average, which ranks second in school history. He was Ball State's male recipient of the inaugural MAC Medal of Excellence last month.

Clouser, a junior from Bluffton, Ind., was an honorable mention selection on last year's Academic All-MAC Team. He owns a 3.857 GPA as a mathematical economics major. On the course, Clouser was a second-team All-MAC pick this year after leading the Cardinals with a 75.00 scoring average. He had four top-20 finishes on the season.

The Academic All-MAC honor recognizes student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for the particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
