KENNESAW, Ga. -- Keegan McKinney and McCormick Clouser posted top-15 finishes and the Ball State men’s golf team moved up one spot Tuesday in the last round of the Pinetree Intercollegiate.

The Cardinals finished their final event of the fall season in a ninth-place tie with Samford. They shot 303 over the closing 18 holes to end with a three-round score of 908 (+44).

McKinney closed with a 74 to move into 14th place individually, marking his best career finish for the second week in a row. The freshman from Avon, Ind., and reigning MAC Golfer of the Week posted a 54-hole total of 5-over par 221.

Clouser shot a final-round 76 at Pinetree Country Club and ended up one stroke behind McKinney in a tie for 15th, matching his best finish of the season.

Tournament host Kennesaw State came from four shots back entering the day to win by eight with a 54-hole score of 872 (+8). Winthrop (+16) and Louisville (+19) finished second and third, while overnight leader Akron (+20) dropped to fourth.

Winthrop’s Taylor Dickson came from seven shots behind on the individual leaderboard to take medalist honors at 3-under par.

In addition to McKinney and Clouser, Ball State also counted a 76 from James Blackwell and a 77 from Zach Yinger in the final round. Blackwell tied for 40th overall with a three-round total of 229. Tyler Merkel finished at 238, while Yinger came in at 243.

Tyler Ostrom, playing as an individual, turned in Ball State’s second-best score of the final round with a 75 and joined Yinger with a 243 total for the tournament.

McKinney’s tie for 14th marked his third top-25 result in six events this season. He was the top finisher for the Cardinals in each of the last two fall tournaments.

Ball State will now break from competition until the spring season. The Cardinals are slated to return to action Feb. 10 when they will host the Mid-American Match Play at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
