Brodie Williams, who will be a senior on the 2012-13 Ball State men's golf team, won the Indiana Golf Association Public Links Championship at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour, Ind.
Williams posted a 66-70=136 to win the event by one stroke over Skip Runnels and Jake Groninger. Ball State alum Kyle Cox was fourth with a 69-70=139.
Earlier this summer, Williams advanced to the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championships in Midway, Utah, after finishing second at the U.S. Public Links Sectional Qualifying at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. Williams managed a two round total of 73-70=143 to finish behind only Chad Johnson of Plymouth, Mich. Only two players advanced out of the Purgatory Sectional. The event will be July 9-14 at Soldier Hollow Golf Course.
Williams was the Cardinals second best finisher at the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships with a tie for 13th. He managed a season low 69 at Pinehurst, and tallied a career best 54-hole score of 221 at the Firestone Invitational. Williams tallied a career best eighth place finish at the EY Invitational. He averaged 74.94 in six events on the season.
