Following are some of the highlights of Collins' tenure at Ball State:

  • In 2008-09, Ball State's football team won the MAC West Division, competed in a second straight bowl game and finished the regular season with a 12-0 record and reached as high as 12th in the national rankings.
  • The 2009 softball team claimed its first-ever MAC Championship
  • The 2008-09 women's basketball team tallied a 71-55 win over two-time defending national champion Tennessee in the first round of the school's first ever NCAA Tournament berth after winning the MAC West Division and the MAC Tournament.
  • Also in 2008-09, the baseball team and men's basketball program shared the MAC West Division Championships.
  • In 2010, Ball State's softball team won a second straight Mid-American Conference Championship, won the MAC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Regional for only the second time in school history and the first time since the 1998 season.
  • In 2010-11, Ball State's women's volleyball team won the MAC Championship, and in 2011-12 the women's volleyball team advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
  • To begin the 2011 football season, Ball State hosted Indiana University at Lucas Oil Stadium, and over 40,000 fans witnessed a 27-21 win by the Cardinals.
  • Oversaw the completion and dedication of the Briner Sports Complex, which includes competitive facilities for field hockey, women's soccer and women's track and field.
  • In 2008-09, Ball State athletics was recognized by the Mid-American Conference with the league's Institutional Academic Achievement Award, which recognizes the school with the highest men's and women's student-athlete grade-point average among the MAC institutions in those sports sponsored by the conference. Ball State managed an overall GPA of 3.057 in the 2008-09 academic year to win the award.

Prior to taking the position at Ball State, Collins served the previous 20 years in several capacities in the athletics department at Arizona State University, including the last five in the department’s number two position as the senior associate athletic director.

Collins’ resume includes working for some of the most recognizable names in intercollegiate athletics. Collins also worked with athletic director Sam Jankovich, while at the University of Miami, and his colleagues through the years include Bill Moos, Jim Livengood, Herman Frazier, Michael Alden, Sandy Hatfield Clubb and Vic Cegles.

Prior to being named to his senior associate A.D. position at Arizona State, Collins served as the university’s associate athletic director, overseeing corporate and community affairs, and as assistant athletic director.
