FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Ball State’s women’s basketball team tallied a 83-75 victory over IPFW Sunday night in the Gates Sports Center.  With the win, the Cardinals improve to 5-6 overall, while the Mastodons fell to 7-7.

Four Cardinals scored in double figures with senior guard Brandy Woody leading the way with 22 points.  Woody also made 13-of-14 free throws for the game.  Sophomore forward Nathalie Fontaine ended the night with 17 while teammates senior forward Katie Murphy and freshman guard Jill Morrison each had 14 apiece.

The win marked one of the Cardinals best shooting performances of the season.  Ball State shot 53.1 percent for the game while holding the Mastodons to 39.3 from the field.

Ball State opened the second half with a 13-0 run to go up 50-13 with just three minutes shaved off the clock.  Murphy started the scoring spree off with a layup while Woody and Morrison followed with back-to-back three pointers.

With 6:40 left to play, the Cardinals had built their largest lead of the contest, 71-55, which came off of free throws from Woody. Like the first half, IPFW managed to chip away at the Cardinals lead after going on a 14-2 run making it a 73-69 contest with 2:53 left.

For the game Ball State went 24-of-28 from the charity stripe helping the Cardinals seal the victory down the stretch.  Woody made eight straight in the closing minutes of the ball game.

Fontaine started the game off with a layup to give Ball State the early 2-0 edge over IPFW.  The Cardinals would then put together a 25-13 run allowing Ball State to take the 27-13 lead over IPFW with 10:09 remaining in the first half.  After that, IPFW responded with a 28-12 run to take a 37-36 halftime advantage over the Cardinals.
